She put on her snake bangle, her dangliest earrings, the mesh crop top and the Ra-ra skirt, a nod to the Sun God himself. Oh, and she mustn’t forget the kohl — the smokier the better.

The subway train was packed with high priests all facing the same way, clutching candy canes. The club was down a flight of narrow steps.

Near the entrance stood a pair of vast stone legs decorated with tinsel. Anubis sniffed at her ankle socks, but let her in. Sistra beats echoed around her as she shimmied onto the dance floor, eager to join the cult.
