Cassandra Has Seen the Statue
Newly unearthed from the ether — an exchange of letters between Cassandra Austen and her more famous sister, Jane.

Dearest Jane,
It’s funny that we’re still writing to each other in the afterlife, at least one mortal habit we’re loathe to abandon, it seems. I hope this letter finds you well. At the grand assembly the other day, I was granted a peek into the 21st century by Mrs Amelia Crombie, courtesy of her magic mirror.
Mrs Crombie is rather a hit in this sphere and is keen to show all kinds of things that are said and done differently in the current world. That includes words like ’funny’, ‘hit’ as well as ‘show’ instead of ‘shew’ so I have adopted the habit and I think it’s an improvement don’t you? At least you can’t mistake it for ‘shrew’. So many new things to learn, it makes your head spin.
Anyway, I have news of something that concerns you directly. The worthies of Winchester in the 21st century have commissioned a statue in your honour. Yes, the public still subscribe to such things as statues, which I find rather endearing. They want to put you outside the cathedral, no less! Mrs Crombie came up to me clutching her reticule, keen to show me further details, but unfortunately when she brought out the mirror, it clouded over due to…
